Education and Training Assistant, Ohio Division of Wildlife
The Ohio Division of Wildlife (www.ohiodnr.gov/wildlife) is now accepting applications for a part-time Education and Training Assistant position at Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve (OWC NERR) in Huron along Ohio's Lake Erie shore (www.oldwomancreek.org). OWC NERR is part of a state-federal partnership of 28 protected sites that promote stewardship of our nation's estuaries through integrated research and education (www.nerrs.noaa.gov<http://www.nerrs.noaa.gov/>).
The successful applicant will join a team of environmental professionals that conduct research, education and stewardship activities related to Old Woman Creek estuary and other Lake Erie coastal wetlands and watersheds. The Reserve provides education for students and the public including guided hikes and canoe tours, and hands-on training for citizens, community leaders, and professionals to support decision-making and actions that benefit wildlife and water quality. The program's core focus areas currently include planning for local implementation of a national K12 estuary education program and training for professionals and decision-makers on issues such as stormwater, land use, and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
Responsibilities:
1) Staff a visitor center equipped with state of the art, interactive science exhibits, answers public inquiries and orient visitors to the Reserve. This includes animal care for resident wildlife within the center.
2) Develop and implement a training program for volunteer docents. Assist with volunteer recruitment and coordination.
3) Assist with education and training programs for the public, students, professionals, and community leaders. Programs are held both in- and outdoors and sometimes involve lifting heavy equipment.
4) Assist with land management. This work may include operating hand tools or larger outdoor equipment.
5) Other duties as assigned.
This is a part-time, grant-funded position that requires evening and weekend hours.

Formal K-12 classroom teaching, field-based environmental education, and/or experience in organizing continuing education for professionals are highly desirable. The contractor shall provide professional support services related to coordinating and supporting the Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning program including program support and coordination and outreach and education initiatives. Duties
Assist NOAA's Regional CMSP Lead (and designated federal Co-Lead) to serve on the Regional Planning Body outlined in the CMSP Framework. Serve as Executive Secretariat, and assist the federal and State Co-Leads to convene the Regional Planning Body (RPB). Specific tasks can include:
* Help to design and implement the regional CMSP planning processes
* Engage agency representatives, scientists and stakeholders in identifying regional objectives for CMSP
* Identify critical gaps and recommend potential solutions
* Assist with CMSP messaging and communication in the region
* Organize and Convene Regional FACA Advisory Committee (optional)
* Help to resolve disputes between RPB members by consensus
* Monitor the execution of the regional CMSP development agreement

* Implement, monitor, evaluate and modify the approved CMS Plan
* Organize NOAA engagement with the regional CMSP effort

Minimum experience or background requirements
* Masters degree from an accredited four year college or university in a relevant natural resource or social science field and a minimum of three years experience in coordinating natural or marine resources policy.
* Experience working in the Pacific Islands region ideally in Coastal and Marine Spatial planning.
* Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task and works well under pressure of short turn around times and deadlines.
* Skill in navigating a politically complex landscape and experience in dealing with controversial issues and in highly charged environments
* Excellent skill in oral and written communication, ability to make clear and concise presentations and the ability to work with a broad range of agencies and stakeholders with divergent views is essential.
* Expertise in Excel, Powerpoint & Word and otherwise computer literate.
Ability to lead a team to achieve stated objectives.

Description: We are seeking to appoint a NCEO Ocean Carbon Modeller to undertake strategic research in the area of data assimilation in marine ecosystem modelling with a particular focus on helping to develop the full potential of earth observation data for monitoring, diagnosing and predicting environmental change in accordance with the aims of the National Centre for Earth Observation.
You will develop and carry out an area of personal research, building on and extending previous collaborative work with the UK Met Office in biogeochemical modelling and ocean colour data assimilation and its application to climate system analysis and forecasting. You will also investigate the performance
of ecosystem models and data assimilation schemes and approaches to test and develop them.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and research experience in a relevant subject area along with a strong background in mathematics and statistics. Practical experience of numerical models is essential as well as good programming skills, preferably including knowledge of FORTRAN and/or C in a UNIX/LINUX environment and the ability to handle large data sets. You will be able to communicate new and complex information effectively, both verbally and in writing, engaging the interest and enthusiasm of the target audience and be able to present research results at group meetings and conferences.

Research Assistant: Sensors for Icy Ecosystems, National Oceanography Centre

Description: A position is available for a Research Assistant in a multidisciplinary team developing advanced sensors and instrumentation for exploration and study of icy ecosystems including glaciers, glacial melt streams and subglacial lakes.
You will join a large and successful multidisciplinary team with experience developing sensors and equipment for glaciology and oceanography. Your role will be the development, test and demonstration of a suite of sensors for physical and chemical parameters in ice and water. This will include working
with lab on chip analytical systems (developed at NOC), microfabricated sensors, optodes and electrochemical sensors.
You will have a PhD in technology, engineering or similar discipline with in depth experience of developing, characterising and testing advanced analytical systems or sensor technologies. You will have practical experience of chemical measurement and of applying analytical or sensor technologies outside the laboratory. Experience of microfluidic and microfabricated systems design would be an advantage. You will be used to working in a team and presenting design ideas orally and in writing including in peer reviewed journals.
The project is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council and is undertaken in collaboration with the University of Bristol. The Sensors Group has a track record of attracting significant research funding with programmes funded to 2014. We anticipate further opportunities in the future for successful candidates.

Research Scientist (ref 983) - Arctic ocean-sea-ice Climate Model, SMHI
Norrköping, Sweden.
To work on the development and application of a new high-resolution, Arctic ocean-sea-ice climate model. Processes beyond the resolution of global climate models are of great importance for simulating Arctic budgets of heat and freshwater, and for describing the influence of Atlantic and Pacific waters on changing sea ice conditions.
Work will entail scientific and technical development of an ocean-sea ice model and assumes readiness to engage in the full range of activities pertinent to the development, application and subsequent analysis of such a system, e.g. model set-up, observation-based evaluation and process studies to better understand the Arctic coupled climate.
SMHI and Rossby Centre are participating in Swedish and European efforts to understand and simulate the Arctic climate. The new ocean-sea ice model is envisaged to be part of SMHIs next generation regional coupled Arctic ocean-ice-atmosphere model.
The work will take place within the Rossby Centre at the Research Department of SMHI and will involve close collaboration with other model development scientists in the Rossby Centre and other units of SMHI.
Your profile
We seek a person with experience in oceanography/meteorology/physics or a similar discipline. Prior experience in numerical modelling of ocean/sea ice/climate is a requirement as is a good knowledge of the programming languages Fortran and Unix/Linux and experience of use massively parallel computer systems. A PhD qualification in oceanography/meteorology/physics or a similar would be beneficial.
We seek a person who can work independently on complex problems but is also comfortable sharing larger tasks within a group. Good knowledge of English is required, along with a clear willingness to learn Swedish.
The position is time-limited for 2-years and will be located at SMHI in Norrköping, Sweden.

Based within the Polar Oceans programme at our Cambridge office, you will be part of a team investigating oceanographic variability in the Southern Ocean and the Arctic, and its impacts on the Earth System. The group runs sophisticated idealised, regional and global oceanographic models (including sea ice and ice shelf components) to simulate past conditions and also to predict how the ocean will evolve in the future. Models are run on local and national supercomputing facilities and generate large volumes of data, and we also use output from very large models run by external collaborators. As an integral part of Ocean Conservancy's 14-member Resource Development team, the Foundations and Government Relations Manager is responsible for supporting and enhancing Ocean Conservancy's philanthropic partnerships with foundations and government agencies to improve the health of our ocean through critical policy reform and innovative tools. The Manager will play a supporting role in managing an approximately $8 million annual portfolio by identifying new partnership opportunities, developing and executing successful partnership cultivation strategies, building compelling cases for support to secure foundation and government philanthropic support and providing accurate, timely reports that focus on the impact achieved as a result of the funding. The manager will work closely with Ocean Conservancy's team of conservation professionals to successfully communicate the impact and value of philanthropic commitments to our funding partners.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works collaboratively with development and conservation program staff, Ocean Conservancy's leadership team, and our Board of Directors, as appropriate, to articulate our mission and objectives to new and existing foundation and government partners.
Cultivates strong relationships with assigned foundation and government partners via communication with key program officers and/or staff to deepen support and prepares conservation staff and Executive leadership for in-person meetings.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven success in maintaining and enhancing philanthropic partnerships, with three to five years development experience and knowledge of government grants' process. Ideal candidates will have experience working with all levels of staff, including key staff in foundation and government settings.
College degree preferred in a relevant science or interdisciplinary specialty, management, communications, public policy, or another field closely related to coastal/marine affairs or environmental protection.
In-depth knowledge of ocean issues preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, including knowledge of correct grammar and syntax, as well as the ability to communicate complex scientific or technical concepts to lay audiences (written samples will be requested).
Demonstrated success in identifying new philanthropic partners through the use of electronic prospect research tools as well as strong computer skills (Raisers Edge experience a plus).

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Pacific Area, Operation Division, Operations Response Branch, Maritime Homeland Security, Law Enforcement and Deployable Specialized Forces Section, Alameda, CA.
The primary purpose of the position is to establish, develop and oversee long-term national and regional partnerships and cooperative agreements for living marine resources and to provide program direction, oversight, administration, resource planning, technical leadership and execution of the Marine Protected Species (MPS) Program within the Pacific Area.

* Serves as program manager for the Pacific Area Marine Protected Species Program, a complex program involving a wide variety of species spread throughout the Pacific theater.
* Performs resource planning, assesses ocean resource enforcement trends, predicts and anticipates future resource and asset needs, analyzes funding availability, and prioritizes and allocates resources accordingly.
* Prepares biological assessments for the area and ensures quality training for personnel on ocean resource issues.
* Participates at the national level in formulating policy, establishing objectives and priorities and correlating and integrating ocean resource activities; and developing and revising procedures, technical standards, guidelines and college-level correspondence courses for the programs.
* Serves as the official liaison and primary contact point for ocean resource matters to international organizations, Federal, State and local governments, non-governmental organizations, industry, research institutions, and state organizations.
* Develops and implements cooperative education, research and outreach programs with, and provides technical assistance to, Federal, State, and local government administrators, special interest groups, and the public concerning the protection and proper management of commercial fisheries and marine mammals, ocean plants, marine wildlife and their habitat.
* Conducts liaison, represents the agency, and works in consultation with international, national and state ocean resource biologists, managers and law enforcement officials to develop and implement 5-10 year strategic MPS campaign plan for the Pacific Area.
* Evaluates the impact on programs and sets program priorities; develops technical guidance and operating procedures; devises strategies for major contemporary, emerging, and future issues confronting the MPS programs; and manages, coordinates, and directs responses to emergent and current MPS operational and programmatic issues.
* Develops information for data management systems; and monitors and reviews output and directs the continued maintenance of the systems.
* Reviews new and revised policy directives from agency headquarters to ensure compliance with area objectives; and develops and distributes policy, standards and specifications for programs.
* Prepares, evaluates, and conducts biological analysis of oceanographic resources to ensure compliance with appropriate laws, and to avoid and mitigate adverse impacts on oceanographic wildlife resources. Reviews and determines impacts on agency and prepares agency comments and responses to environmental impact statements of proposed ocean resource regulatory changes and ocean resource management measures.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* BA/BS degree and 5 years experience in conservation practice and policy in field relevant to marine science and marine resource conservation or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Director, Ocean and Coastal Conservation, directs all aspects of the Marine and Coastal conservation priorities of the Rhode Island Operating Unit. S/he serves as the principle contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community. The Director is responsible for creating and implementing a communications/media relations plan to support the chapter's Ocean and Coastal Programs. This position reports to the State Director, has supervisory responsibilities and may direct the work of conservation staff not reporting to the position but dedicated to Marine strategies.

The Alaska SeaLife Center, a non-profit organization generating and sharing scientific knowledge that promotes understanding and stewardship of Alaska's marine ecosystems is seeking applications for an Education Specialist. This position is responsible for designing and presenting education programs for schools and public audiences. Variable hours, including mornings, evenings and weekends as needed. May include national and state-wide travel for professional development and urban/rural outreach.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a field complementary to the Center's mission, two years experience in a similar setting or the equivalent. Experience in curriculum writing and development, understanding of state/national standards and program coordination is preferred.
The specific skills and abilities of the employee in this position and the needs of the department will dictate which of the primary responsibilities are performed by the employee.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
1. Develops and presents educational programs with a focus on current marine research in Alaska, to scheduled on-site or off-site school groups and other audiences. Delivery methods may also include distance learning by videoconference.
2. Designs and publishes teacher guides adherent to state and national science standards for education programs that include classroom activities for student interactivity.
3. Works with exhibits staff and other ASLC staff to construct props and other teaching materials to supplement education programs.
4. This Education position may also work with Exhibits, Interpretation, or Science staff to complete projects that fulfill the ASLC's institutional and educational goals.
5. Participates in conversations about current best practices in informal science education and identifies models for successful programs.
6. Identifies necessary equipment and supplies, coordinates procurements and maintains the education supply inventory.
7. Assists with marketing by identifying new markets and opportunities for education programs.
8. May train and coordinate scheduling of part-time Education Specialists, interns, and volunteers.
9. May coordinate an Education program, such as Outreach, In-House Programs, or Distance Learning.
10. Maintains an effective working relationship with staff. Must be able to work both independently and as a team member, while handling multiple priorities in an efficient manner.
11. Represents the ASLC by presenting programs and resources at off-site special events, such as festivals, conferences, fundraising events, and teacher training days.
