Postdoctoral position in gene expression of marine protists
A 2-year post-doctoral position is available at The Natural History Museum of Denmark, University of Copenhagen with start January 2016 or shortly thereafter. The position is part of the project "Gene expression, photophysiology and nutrient dynamics in marine protists with acquired phototrophy" funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research. The project is a collaboration between Associate Professor Nina Lundholm, Professor Per Juel Hansen, both at University of Copenhagen and senior researcher Uwe John Alfred-Wegener Institute, Germany.
Area of Research
Functional biology and the underlying functional genomics of protists engaging in acquired phototrophy (i.e., the use of chloroplasts from ingested photosynthetic prey). We intend to evaluate in which ways this mode of nutrition is advantageous, and what constraints it places on their population dynamics. Using both field and laboratory experiments we will explore the vital rates governing the physiology and the underlying functional genomics to address the regulative and metabolic processes allowing the occurrence of acquired relationships.
Qualifications
We seek a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a similar field. Solid experiences with molecular techniques like transcriptomics, genomics or similar is a requirement. Likewise experience with protists, e.g. culturing, physiology, microscopy is expected. The successful candidate will work actively within an international, cross-disciplinary group of researchers: therefore strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory.
Application
Applicants must apply online by clicking on "SØG STILLINGEN" or "APPLY ONLINE" below.
The application must include:
1. Motivation letter including description of project related research experience (max 1 page)
2. Curriculum vitae including full list of publications
3. Copies of diploma/degree certificates
4. Full contact details of 2 persons for references, letters of recommendation may be included
The deadline for application is December 8, 2015.
Shortlisting. After application deadline, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the employment committee. All applicants are immediately notified whether their application has passed the assessment. Applicants who did not pass the assessment should not expect further with regard to their application unless the shortlist is revised.
Terms of salary and employment. Terms of appointment and payment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC). Currently, the postdoc salary starts at 385,140 DKK yearly plus pension (taxable). Supplements can be added according to qualifications. Information about working conditions and taxes is available at www.workingconditions.ku.dk<http://www.workingconditions.ku.dk/>.
