Dear HAB Community,
The Ninth Session of Intergovernmental Panel on Harmful Algal Blooms
(IPHAB) is planned for 22-24 April 2009 - see invitation at
http://www.ioc-unesco.org/hab/index.php?option=com_oe&task=viewDoclistRe
cord&doclistID=70 where you will also find current list of Members of
IPHAB as well as other working documents for the session.
IPHAB is a mechanism to discuss, develop and organize international and
regional cooperation on HAB. At this coming session the focus will in
particular be:
* Capacity building
* The GEOHAB Research Programme
* Biotoxin Regulation and Human Health
* The Harmful Algae Information System and the International Ocean
Data Exchange
* HAB observations and their inclusion in GOOS Regional Alliances
* Harmful algal events, coastal zone management and linkages with
coastal eutrophication
* Formulation/endorsement of specific objectives for regional
activities
The Agenda is furthermore open to the priorities of Member States.
For IPHAB to be an effective and useful mechanism it is of paramount
importance that its members are either:
1. Managers and decision makes at an appropriate high level to be
able to discuss policies and make commitments
2. Scientists or managers that come well prepared with a strong and
clear mandate to speak on behalf of the relevant governmental
authorities or institutions.
Check at
http://www.ioc-unesco.org/hab/index.php?option=com_oe&task=viewDoclistRe
cord&doclistID=70 if your country is already involved in IPHAB, and if
not, you might wish to contact your national IOC focal point. If you do
not have the contact details for your national IOC focal point these can
be requested from Virginie Bonnet at v.bonnet at unesco.org .
Best regards,
Henrik Enevoldsen
