Greetings, everyone -

I'm sending this information on behalf of Deana Erdner, with our
apologies for cross postings.

We would like to inform you of a topical session at the upcoming ASLO
summer meeting in Victoria, B.C., that may be of interest to ISSHA
members:

TS-G04 - "Genomics" Without a Genome
Organizers: Deana Erdner, WHOI, derdner at whoi.edu and Sonya Dyhrman,
WHOI, sdyhrman at whoi.edu

This session will explore the generation and use of "post-genomic"
technologies (e.g. transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) with
organisms for which full genome sequences are not available. Aquatic
ecology has undoubtedly benefited from the genome sequencing of
several key organisms. However, the majority of researchers in marine
and freshwater systems work with non-model organisms with little
prospect of a full genome sequence. Nonetheless, many have made
considerable advances without the availability of a complete genome
sequence. Methods and approaches such as expressed sequence tags,
global expression profiling, proteomics, and metabolomics are
advancing our knowledge of aquatic organisms and ecosystem function.
Here we invite abstracts that involve the use of post-genomic
methodology for elucidating the functioning of both organisms and
ecosystems.

Please contact the organizers if you have any questions, and note
that the deadline for abstract submission is this Friday, January
20th. Thank you!
