Analytical Chemistry Research Officer
Institute for Marine Biosciences (IMB)
Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada
NRC is a dynamic, nationwide R&D organization committed to helping Canada
realize its potential as an innovative and competitive nation. Our
strengths are: outstanding people, core science and engineering expertise
and information, research programs focused on key technologies and
technology diffusion. Combining our strengths with those of industrial and
academic partners, we foster Canada's emerging national system of
innovation.
The NRC Institute for Marine Biosciences is respected worldwide for its
research and technology development in marine biosciences, including
state-of-the-art analytical chemistry of biological molecules. IMB features
a broad and integrated suite of marine bioscience and biotechnology
laboratories and an aquaculture research station. IMB is an integrated
systems biology institute with the capability to investigate research
questions from the level of the genome to the whole organism. IMB's
research programs focus primarily on the areas of aquaculture, natural
toxins and mass spectrometry-proteomics. IMB is also home to the Canadian
Bioinformatics Resource, a distributed bioinformatics computing environment
and help desk available to biologists across Canada. The Institute also has
a substantial suite of state-of-the-art advanced instrumentation in mass
spectrometry-proteomics, high-throughput DNA sequencing, NMR and microscopy.
The Aquaculture Research Station is well equipped for live-animal work on
fish and shellfish, including production of live and formulated feeds.
The Analytical Chemistry Research Officer will support the mission of NRC
and the Institute for Marine Biosciences by leading a research program of
innovative R&D activities of international scientific and technological
caliber in the field of organic analytical chemistry. The focus of this
position is the development of analytical methods and certified reference
materials for phycotoxins. The incumbent will be responsible for
dissemination of his/her research accomplishments through publication in
high quality journals and presentations at the national and international
levels.
The incumbent will interact with other IMB researchers in the toxin team in
research areas such as Harmful Algal Blooms, Phytoplankton Ecology,
