Dear ISSHA Member,
This notification is to remind you that annual Society dues, $20 US (or
equivalent in Danish Crowns/EUROS), are due by 31 December 2003. A reduced
rate of $10 US is available for student members. Please remit your dues by
then, so the Society can carry on its business. Earlier would be great!
Instructions and an electronic form for submitting the membership renewal
information are found on the ISSHA website
(http://cbr-rbc.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/issha/New_ISSHA/Member_info.html
<http://cbr-rbc.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/issha/New_ISSHA/Member_info.html> ). An
option is available to pay by credit card.
We thank you for your continued interest in ISSHA. As you know, we had the
election for Council members and the Council is expected to have its first
meeting around April. This meeting will establish committees for statutes
and bylaws, elections, achievement awards, student travel awards, services
of ISSHA including training, publications, etc. One of the first things to
do will be to accept nominations for the Executive and to develop an
election ballot that can be mailed to members three months before the next
General Assembly. Our next General Assembly will be in November 2004, at
HAB2004 in South Africa. Ballots will be counted at that meeting and the
new Executive announced.
In the interim between HAB2002 and HAB2004, we have carried out, or will be
carrying out, the following activities:
* ISSHA members have nominated and elected a Council and are
organizing a Council meeting for the spring of 2004.
* Prior to and at the Council meeting, discussions on student
travel loans will be pursued, so that travel grants may be given to
international students to supplement their travel to South Africa for
HAB2004.
* The ISSHA Yasumoto Achievement Award was made to Dr. Grethe
R. Hasle in Oslo Norway by Øjvind Moestrup and Nina Lundholm, on behalf of
ISSHA. The award ceremony was photographed and is up on the ISSHA website

* In addition to Dr. Hasle's award, Dr. Theodore J. Smayda
also received an ISSHA Yasumoto Achievement Award, at the HAB2002
conference; photographs and text for the award are on the website

Please accept our best wishes for the holiday season.
Stephen Bates
ISSHA Secretary,
on behalf of the ISSHA Executive
