Subject: IOC-AECI-NAUTA-COPEMED-DANIDA Training Course on Harmful Algae for
North Africa

 

Place:              Institut National des Sciences et Technologies de la Mer
(INSTM),

Salammbo, Tunesia

 

Date:                1-10 December 2003

 

Organizers:      IOC of UNESCO; IOC Science and Communication Centres on
Harmful Algae (University of Copenhagen; IEO-Vigo); INSTM.

 

Objectives:       To strengthen the capabilities and expertise of North
African countries to design and implement monitoring programmes on harmful
algae and the management of their effects; To establish a regional network
of people working on harmful algae. 

 

Participants:    Ten from North African (Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia,
Algeria, Libya, Egypt) institutions with monitoring, management, or research
responsibilities related to phytoplankton, aquaculture, toxicology and other
areas related to harmful algae. 

 

Level:              The Course is aimed at participants who have a basic
knowledge of harmful algal taxonomy and some involvement with HAB
monitoring.

             

Funding:          IOC and the sponsors will cover all direct costs such as
travel, accommodation, and allowances
