First Announcement

8th Canadian Workshop on Harmful Marine Algae (CWHMA)
May 28-30, 2003
Gulf Fisheries Centre
Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

The 8th Canadian Workshop on Harmful Marine Algae (CWHMA) will be held =
in
Moncton, near the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence, eastern Canada.  The =
1st
CWHMA was held there in 1989 and, after being hosted by other coastal =
cities
in Canada, is now returning to its point of origin.

The 8th CWHMA should be of interest to researchers, academics, =
managers,
regulatory personnel and those working in the aquaculture industry.  =
The
format will consist of oral presentations, posters and special topics =
or
round table discussions. Subject categories include the taxonomy, =
chemistry,
ecology, toxicology, physiology, monitoring and mitigation of HABs.

The workshop program will be developed following the submission of =
proposed
titles.  More detailed information about sessions, accommodations and =
travel
will be included in the second announcement following pre-registration.

There is no registration fee, so be sure to pre-register to receive =

Past CWHMA have always had participants from other countries, not just
Canada, so you are welcome to attend.

BTW, today (December 18) is the 15th anniversary of the announcement =
that
domoic acid was the toxin responsible for contaminating mussels in =
eastern
Canada, in 1987.  The news was released at a joint press conference in
Ottawa, by Canada's National Research Council and Health Canada.
