[ISSHA] Request for Council Member nominations

ISSHA Members,

The Executive Committee of the International Society for the Study of
Harmful Algae (ISSHA) is seeking nominations for ISSHA Council Members. =


The Council shall consist of the President, Vice-Presidents, the =
Secretary,
the Treasurer, the immediate Past President (ex officio) and a minimum =
of 4
and a maximum of 14 Members.  The Council shall conduct the general =
business
of the Society including setting up standing and ad hoc committees for
specific purposes, consisting wholly or in part of Council Members. =
Meetings
of the Council may be in person or by electronic media.

The ISSHA Executive is seeking nominations for at least 4 Council =
Members in
order to proceed with establishing committees such as Nominations and
Elections, Achievement, Travel, and Student Awards, Conferences and
Meetings, Statutes and Bylaws, etc.  The name, function and rules for =
the
committees will be suggested by the respective committee and put to the
Council.

Please take the time to nominate a HAB scientist that you feel would be
willing and able to help build a geographically and scientifically =
diverse
society dedicated to Harmful Algal Blooms.  Submit your nominations to
Stephen Bates at BatesS@dfo-mpo.gc.ca <mailto:BatesS@dfo-mpo.gc.ca> by
February 1, 2003.

After the Executive has reviewed the nominations and verified that each =
of
the nominees would serve if elected, a list of nominees will be mailed =
to
all Society members for a written ballot by March 1, 2003. ISSHA =
members
will have until March 30, 2003 to vote by mail.

The results of the vote will be posted on the ISSHA website by April =
10,
2003.  Elected Council Members will be introduced to the General =
Assembly at
the next HAB conference in South Africa. Between May and the conference =
in
November 2004, the Council will be able to establish committees, =
establish
committee rules, and handle other society business.
