Apologies for cross-postings to the ISSHA and PHYCOTOXINS mailing =
lists;
many HAB researchers are still subscribed to one or the other of these
lists.
Dear ISSHA Members and Those Interested in Membership:
You may have recently received, or will receive, an invitation by snail =
mail
to join or re-join the International Society for the Study of Harmful =
Algae
(ISSHA). This message will link you to the ISSHA website
(<http://www.cbr.nrc.ca/issha/>), which has an electronic Membership =
Form
(<http://www.cbr.nrc.ca/issha/New_ISSHA/Member_Form3.html>) for your
convenience. Payment by credit card is also possible via that site.
Right now, full annual membership is still $20 US (or equivalent in =
Danish
Crowns/EUROS) and a reduced rate of $10 US is available for student =
members.
The field of HAB research has matured to the point that the time is =
ripe for
an active Society. Recently, the ISSHA Executive met in St. =
Petersburg,
Florida to consider the goals and future directions of the Society. =
Minutes
of that meeting are available at
<http://www.cbr.nrc.ca/issha/New_ISSHA/Act_Minutes_Florida_March_2001.ht=
ml>.
What are the benefits of ISSHA membership?
* ISSHA will cosponsor the Xth International Conference on Harmful
Algae (<http://www.xhab2002.com/>), a first step in the integration of =
the
International Conferences with ISSHA.
* ISSHA members will be entitled to a discounted registration fee for
the Xth International Conference on Harmful Algae.
* ISSHA will develop and administer a student travel fund for national
and international meetings on harmful algae.
* ISSHA members have access to a Society website
(<http://www.cbr.nrc.ca/issha/>), containing an updated membership =
list,
references, Society news and announcements, and extensive links to =
related
sites on harmful algae.
* ISSHA members can communicate with other members via the ISSHA
mailing list (<http://www.whoi.edu/mailman/listinfo/issha>).
* ISSHA plans to cosponsor training courses and workshops.
We are a young and multidisciplinary Society with the overall mandate =
to
promote and foster research and training programs on harmful algae. If =
you
are a member, please renew your membership. If you are not a member and =
want
to be, please join.
We look forward to your participation in helping to build a dynamic =
Society.
Sincerely,
Stephen S. Bates
ISSHA Secretary, on behalf of the Executive
