Hello All -

More regarding a message that I sent in August about this -- NSF has now
put the following info on their Fastlane Homepage (we should make note
of that last paragraph especially; anyone having trouble with
Research.gov?):

*Attention FastLane Users: Project Reports now excludes ability for
PI/CO-PIs to enter demographics for project participants; the privacy
protected information may be entered only by the participant:*

In August 2012, in order to ensure compliance with Federal-wide privacy
standards, NSF removed the ability for PIs/Co-PIs to enter demographic
information about project participants when preparing project reports in
FastLane. This change ensures that only project participants may enter
such privacy protected information about themselves.

When adding a participant to a project report, FastLane will prompt
PIs/Co-PIs to collect demographic information for each participant via a
drop-down list. The options for collecting demographic information include:
Send E-Mail: FastLane sends an email to the added participant, and the
participant logs in to the URL provided in the email to enter his or her
demographic information directly.

Print Sheet: PI/co-PIs may print the instructions for entering
demographic information and hand it manually to the participants. The
participant then logs in to the URL provided to enter his or her
demographic information directly.

Please see "FastLane Online Help". for additional instructions. For
additional assistance, contact the FastLane Online Help - 7 AM to 9 PM
Eastern Time, Monday through Friday at 1-800-673-6188 or by emailing
fastlane at nsf.gov.

*Additionally, in early 2013, NSF will transfer its current project
reporting service from FastLane to Research.gov. This change will
require PIs and Co-PIs to use Research.gov to prepare and submit annual,
final, and interim project reports to NSF. Stay tuned for more
information. *

Cheers,
Sheila

Dear Flex-ers -
Something we found out today on the /Reporting/ side of Fastlane. Makes
last-minute reports even harder...

Hi All -

In the past when I would add a GRA or Postdoc into the participants area
of a report in Fastlane, and indicate that they have been working on the
project for more than 160 hours, I would be given the opportunity to
fill in the demographic information for the participant. Now the system
requires that the participants (not even
the PIs) are the only ones that can fill in this information. The
Fastlane system will send the GRA or Postdoc a pin to login and answer
the demographic questions.

The report can not be submitted until the demographic info has been entered.
