Dear Flexible FLEXers:

I thought you would like an update on how we are doing with the printing
issues with Fastlane.

Debbie Shafer set up my new-to-me 'clean' windows 2000 computer with 8
printer definitions for our dept's super-duper color laser and high
speed b/w laser printers. That is all possible combinations of the two
drivers available for each of two printers plus the two possible ways
each printer can receive the data to print. Systematic testing is
showing us that the most reliable way to print as normal is using the
non-PostScript printer driver (PCL) for each of the fancy laserjets. The
PostScript printer driver seems to freeze acrobat or lose font info or
have major indigestion unless you check 'print as image' before
printing. However, the PostScript driver did not handle color in the
same way (read 'unacceptable') in the color sample I sent when printed
as an image.

Next steps:
1. please email Debbie & me the name of your printer that you print to
and its make and model so printer drivers can be found and examined.
2. I want to test printing from within the browser window in Fastlane.
Anybody willing to talk me through a login over the phone? OR anybody
want to visit my office to send the file from here? Please email AND
call!! I have this nice machine waiting here in my friendly cozy office...

Debbie & I are greatly encouraged by the reproducibility of the errors
you are seeing and by the tentative solution we see developing out of
our testing.

Let's hope the positive trend continues - I sure would be glad to have
this go off the frustration radar for folks right now!

Helen (with fingers crossed...)
