[Flex] We are experiencing FASTLANE problems

Here, in P.O. Dept we have begun to be bitten by the font-bug on 
Fastlane.  Sheila Clifford arranged a visit last fall with one of the 
Fastlane program managers, Brian Midson, in relation to the problems she 
and others were experiencing.  I am attaching notes composed by Maryanne 
Wray and myself regarding information from his visit.

In essence he has recommended that we upload our word processing files 
to Fastlane to be pdf'd onsite.   There is a problem with LaTeX, of 
course, because even if we upload the .dvi file the figures need to be 
included in order to process; I believe our solution was to put them 
into a gzip file, instructions for which are in Fastlane LaTeX 
instruction documentation.  (I tried to continue to look into this but 
time has been a factor in not following through.)

Now, here we are at deadline, again, and problems are occurring when you 
try to print your document directly from Fastlane.  I hope this 
information will help some of you.
