Dear FLEX-ers:
It sounds like there are 2 problems here:
1. dude not at WHOI in NSF FastLane
2. non-WHOI in SWU as Lead PI
I am writing about the way to handle this kind of situation in SWU. Our
new system will be able to handle not-yet-here/official PIs in a
different and more flexible fashion. But in the meantime...
To create a SWU, you need a valid employee on the create new SWU screen.
People usually pick the Dept Chair as PI.
The SWU fastlane report requires you to have all your PI ducks in a row
(A1-A2-A3; NOT A1-A3-A4 and NOT -A2-A3). So...
On the man-with-sunglasses-screen, add the chair as A1 with 0 hours.
THEN add the TBH as A2 with LEAD PI as part of his name.
(example: TBH1 Gordon, H, LEAD PI)
By doing the above method for the non-WHOI or
Student-who-will-be-a-scientist person who is submitting a proposal
under WHOI, report 7 (fastlane report) is happy because it has
sequential numbering of PIs and WHOI is fine because it is obvious even
5 years from now that the A1 chair is a placeholder and the TBH A2 is
the real PI.
After all, in our current system, you retype the names into the WHOI
budget in the order you want them. Also, when the names are entered in
FastLane, it reorders them alphabetically, so it is only the WHOI budget
that shows the exact order you want every time. (And in the specific
case Karen was telling me about on the phone, the Chair would never even
be entered in FastLane or the WHOI budget)
