The big issue seems to be figures.

The FLEX committee batted around NSF's resistance to color figures in
proposals and it is felt that a clear message is coming across that "NSF

really doesn't want color figures in proposals" and it is anticipated
that sooner or later the statement will be made that no color figures
are allowed along with the 15 copy thing.
Some thought is being given to how we might be able to present color
figures without putting them into a proposal .... such as in the figure
caption putting a parenthetical statement that "this figure would be
best viewed in color on an ftp site or website". In other words
submitting the proposal with B&W figs, but giving reviewer the option to

view the figure in color online.

Because Helvetica fonts wreak havoc with PDFing and NSF Fastlane
uploading, Chris Hammond will ask graphics if it is possible to use
another font in creation of *all figures*. At first we thought it might

be good to ask that figures intended for proposals no longer be created
with Helvetica fonts, but any figure created could end up used in a
proposal. Soooo, how about getting rid of Helvetica fonts all the way
to save us this problem. I'll let you know what the Graphics department

thinks about this.

Fonts used by other departments of budgets ... Times New Roman, Arial
(preferred by most).

I passed around the New Current Support style PO has started using.
Some were surprised and wondered why they hadn't been advised that the
decision was made to use this format. Hopefully they will find out what

the issue is with their Department Execs and sooner or later it will be
uniform throughout the institution.
