Dear WHOI Data-Mongers,
Yesterday, I attended a meeting with representatives from ESRI, the
company that makes ArcGIS products (http://www.esri.com/).
One outcome that developed out of this, is that I would like to assess
the current user base and current (and potential) need for this software
- to figure out if a WHOI site license could be justified.
Please let me know if you are a user of ESRI GIS software, or if you may
be interested in learning more about their mapping and analytical tools.
Also - many of you may be interested in open source software for GIS.
It'd be great to hear from GIS users at WHOI - to get a feeling for the
interest in ESRI and/or open source GIS software across disciplines at WHOI.
Please reply directly to me (stace at whoi.edu) before the holiday break,
if you have a chance, thanks,
Best regards,
Stace
