Title: Saving the Planet with Scrum
Summary:
The Encyclopedia of Life (www.eol.org) is an ambitious project to provide global access to knowledge about life on Earth. Built on a complex network of partners, data, and infrastructure, the EOL project requires a careful yet flexible approach to planning and development. Since 2008, the EOL software development team has been using a lightweight, iterative, team-oriented approach to software development called Scrum, a framework that has risen to prominence in the software industry and beyond due to its positive impact on organizations' culture, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
If you are interested in learning how to manage complexity in your projects while becoming more adaptable to change, then come learn more about what the EOL team is doing with Scrum.
Goals include:
-Understand the fundamentals of scrum and agile software development
-Understand if scrum is a good approach for your team/project/organization
-Understand how to get started
Specific examples from the EOL project will be used to illustrate the points above.
About the speaker:
Kristen Lans is the Release Manager of the Biodiversity Informatics Group of the Encyclopedia of Life project and a Certified Scrum Master. Her focus at MBL is to facilitate clear communication and project goals, coordinate planning activities, remove team impediments, and continuously improve process.
See you there!
