The next Informal Lunch Talk will be:
When: Noon, Monday, February 7, 2011
Where: Starr 209 on the MBL Campus (map)
Who: Lakshmi Manohar Akella, Center for Library and Informatics, MBL
Title: "Machine Learning-II and Information Extraction"
Summary:
This talk will give a general overview of machine learning approaches with some interesting applications and developments. Applications of supervised machine learning algorithms to text classification will be presented. The talk will also cover applications of learning approaches like Conditional Random Fields (CRF) to Named Entity Recognition (NER), sequence labeling and information extraction.
Speaker Bio:
Lakshmi is a computer scientist passionate about machine learning. He is a Natural Language Processing Analyst working on information extraction with the Biology of Aging group at the Center for Library and Informatics.
He has been applying machine learning algorithms to natural language processing tasks like text/document classification, named entity recognition (NER), information extraction, computational proteomics (clustering methods for finding & visualizing patterns and for extracting peptide signals associated with diseases in LC-MS data) and dimensionality reduction, manifold learning and visualization for analyzing complex chemical compound data.
The Monday Lunch talks are held every other Monday. We have created a wiki page for these and other Informatics events in Woods Hole. Please consider giving a talk, we have lot's of openings in 2011! Let us know if you about any informatics related event and we will add it to this page. Those of you who haven't subscribed to the Informatics discussion list, you might want to. Information on how to subscribe is on the wiki page above.
See you Monday!
