Good morning fellow beekeepers!
The WHOI Beekeeping Project core group is planning to set up a hive in the Village, somewhere in the vicinity of the WHOI Community Gardens there. Our hope is to have a healthy hive that can be seen (from a distance, preferably) by the bee-curious in the community, and also have close proximity to WHOI Gardens as local, active pollinators!
If you would be interested in sharing in the observation and care of this hive, we would love to include you in communications around that. The core group (keepers of the Quissett hives) will provide guidance, materials and supplies, and assistance when needed - but it takes a small but dedicated group of people who can shift in and out as needed, to keep up with the general maintenance of the hive. Believe me, once you get to know "the girls" in the hive, you will just want to be around them. If they are happy and we are lucky, we will harvest honey at the end of their first season. One experienced beekeeper has volunteered to coordinate the group, but a few pair of bee friendly hands are needed.
