Dear WHOI Postdocs,

I want to specially ask you to consider serving as a discussion facilitator for our annual Ethics Workshop for Summer Student Fellows and other summer undergraduates.

The workshop will be Friday, June 20, 10am to noon in Clark 507.

This is a really nice opportunity to brush up on your own ethics training, meet and interact with these undergrads, and gain some experience in facilitating discussions.

There will be 40-45 students, so 5-6 facilitators are needed.

The format of the workshop is that the students and facilitators are given some reading to do from the book "On Being a Scientist" and a few scenarios (does not take much time). I will send these in advance to save time during the session.

During the session I will make a short presentation and take any questions. Then, we will break into small groups (by table) to discuss a scenario, with at least one facilitator per table.  After discussing, we come back to the group and report out. The plan is to do 3-4 scenarios. Topics we typically cover are plagiarism, authorship, a variation on plagiarism, and misrepresentation of data. Scenarios will be shared with you before the session.
