Mapping the Microbial World Through Massive Phenotypic Screens and AI
Microbes all around us work in combination to improve human health, enhance food quality, and boost crop yield. Replicating these desirable capabilities in targeted products requires a deep understanding of how microbes behave together. Concerto Biosciences unlocks this knowledge with kChip—a platform that physically constructs and evaluates millions of miniature, defined microbial cocultures—and an AI model of microbial interactions uniquely enabled by massive kChip datasets. Our insights into microbial behavior power a growing portfolio of products including: (1) Ensemble No.2 (ENS-002), a clinical-stage, topical, multi-strain live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for atopic dermatitis; (2) CB-002, a pre-clinical stage postbiotic for S. aureus-irritated skin; and (3) Ensemble No.3 (ENS-003), a discovery-stage intravaginal LBP for recurrent vaginal yeast infection. With ongoing efforts to expand our data sets by tens of millions of measured interactions, Concerto is generating the requisite data to train the first AI foundation model of microbial ecology. Through diverse research collaborations, we aim to channel the power of the microbial world to meet the 21st century needs of people and planet.
