The *FIFTH ANNUAL** ~QUEER PROM~* is returning the night of August 24th at
WHOI’s Fenno Patio (rain location: Clark 5). Read on to learn more, and

*What is queer prom?*

It’s a celebration of you and your unique brand of awesome. Let’s be
honest, most parties stretching from high school prom to now are boring and
have lots of social expectations. Queer prom is better. Queer prom is
experimental. Queer prom is everything you wanted high school prom to be.
Basically: we dress up all pretty. There’s lots of decorations. We have
apps and refreshments and jokes and dancing. A LOT OF DANCING. Our goal is
to make you feel good in your own skin.



You might be wondering, "this sounds a lot like prom, where does the queer part
come in?" Well, unlike regular prom with its many social expectations, queer
 prom EXPLICITLY encourages you to break the norm in any way that makes you
feel more empowered. Want to experiment with your gender expression? A
taboo at regular prom- HELL YES at queer prom. "This isn't what a young
professional scientist should wear" you say to yourself. Wear it at queer
prom! There's no such thing as gaudy, weird, tacky, etc. at queer prom!



*~ALL ARE WELCOME AT QUEER PROM!~ *This is an event designed to “queer”/subvert
the traditionalism of prom and parties, especially formal ones. It is *not*
 a queer-affinity space. However, queer prom is 21+. We don’t serve
alcohol, but there will be alcohol at the event.



*Queer Prom Committee*

We are also looking for new members of the queer prom committee who help
organize and decorate the event. *If you want to be a cool person and help
us make this night magical, please reply to this email*! or in the RSVP
form. The commitment is very low- committee members just meet every other
week or so and brainstorm ideas and help with purchasing and setup.
Previous queer proms have included bubble guns, go-gurts, custom temporary
tattoos, and so much more. We are looking for new, exciting ideas! If you
want to brainstorm with us, reply to this email to come to our initial queer
 prom committee meeting. This event wouldn’t be possible without our
amazing queer prom committees each and every year.
