[All-postdocs] Register for Academic Application Workshop

Dear all,

As previously announced, the Postdoc Association is hosting a virtual Academic Application Workshop on Thursdays from 3 to 4:30 pm starting on September 15th and ending October 13th.

Each week will focus on a different component of a typical academic application, including the CV, cover letter, research statement, teaching statement, and DEI statement. At the beginning of each session, invited speakers will talk about their experiences and give advice regarding the given topic for the day, followed by time for questions and discussion. After the panel discussion, we will split into breakout groups to discuss participants' uploaded application materials.

At the first meeting on September 15th, Dr. Steve Elgar (Senior Scientist, AOPE) and Dr. Erin Black (Assistant Professor, University of Rochester) will provide advice and answer questions regarding the Research Statement. Following the panel discussion, participants will provide peer feedback on CVs uploaded to the google drive for the workshop.

Following registration, participants will be assigned to peer working groups and receive a link to their shared folder to upload their CV for week one (9/15), and in the future, their research statement for week two (9/22), teaching statement for week three (9/29), diversity statement for week four (10/6), and cover letter for week five (10/13).

After each workshop meeting, we will host an in-person outdoor social activity. Assuming there is good weather on Sept. 15, we will meet at the Fenno Patio at 4:45pm for warm fall drinks (tea and cider) and continued discussion. Social meet-ups are open to all postdocs, regardless of workshop participation.
