Hi Students and Postdocs,
I am looking for someone to sail on an NSF funded cruise to the eastern Arctic Ocean this coming September. Funding while at sea would be available and there may be the possibility of collecting (water column) samples for your own research depending on sampling requirements. For those on fellowship funding at the time of the cruise, equivalent funding could be arranged to extend your appointment at WHOI. Please discuss with your advisor/supervisor before responding.
The cruise is scheduled to depart out of and return to Kirkenes, Norway aboard the AARI icebreaker Ak.Tryoshnikov. The cruise dates are Sep 10 (loading on Sep 9) through Oct 19 (offloading on Oct 20). At present, there would be an NSF-required 14 day quarantine in Norway prior to sailing, but this is subject to change. The onboard work would focus on water column sampling for radium isotopes (training would be provided) and prepping two time-series radium samplers for deployment on moorings. At sea, it is expected that the individual would follow a 12 on/12 off daily schedule.
Regards,
Matt
