[All-postdocs] meeting for a (more) sustainable WHOI

Hi everyone,

About a week ago I sent a letter, attached here, to our director about sustainability at WHOI. I basically called for improved sustainable practices at the institution in order to decrease our carbon footprint and argued it would decrease our overhead cost in the long run, spur new fields of research, and increase our outreach visibility. I do not know if this letter will make a difference at the top administrative levels.

What I do know is that as a community we can make substantial changes. I would like therefore to invite as many people as possible to participate in a brainstorm session to identify areas and processes at WHOI where efficiency is optimized and where there is room for improvement. To improve WHOI’s overall efficiency, we need a holistic approach and coordinated efforts. So, it would be great if as many of you can attend and if you can distribute this invitation to as diverse a group as possible (scientists, engineers, techs, admins, facilities, mariners, etc).

I intend to organize a one-hour kick-off meeting for mid-November. Please let me know (reply to me only) if you’d be interested in attending and/or planning this event, or simply if you’d rather send me your thoughts about improving sustainability.
