The Boston Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 2018-19 season with 
three performances this weekend. Featuring music by Stravinsky and 
Tchaikovsky, the program will be centered around Bartók’s “Concerto for 
Orchestra,” which had its world premiere at the BSO in 1944. As part of 
its opening weekend celebration, the BSO will continue to offer its 
season-long deal of $20 tickets for patrons under the age of 40, as well 
as $10 rush tickets for all ages at the BSO box office on Thursday and

Now in its 10th year, the Boston Book Festival will bring 115 events and 
275 speakers to town for a weekend of talks, signings, and other lit 
activities. The lion’s share of events will be free and take place on 
Saturday in Copley Square, but a Friday night lecture from author 
Michael Pollan and a Saturday afternoon discussion between historian 
Doris Kearns Goodwin and former Secretary of State John Kerry require 
separate tickets. The BBF will have neighborhood festivals in East
