Biology Lab Instructor ? Biodiversity, Ecology, Conservation, and
Physiological Zoology
Location: Northampton, MA

The Department of Biological Sciences at Smith College invites
applications for a lab instructor to begin August 1st, 2014. This is a
full-time course support position with full benefits. We seek a
candidate with experience in organismal biology and ecology, with at
least an M.S. in biology, ecology, physiological zoology, or a related
field. The successful candidate will have strong quantitative and
teaching skills and should be eager to engage in teaching
undergraduate students.

Teaching responsibilities include taking on a key role in the
department?s introductory lab course focused on biodiversity, ecology,
and conservation, as well as teaching laboratories in an intermediate
course on animal physiology. The introductory course employs an
inquiry-based approach that seeks to involve students in hands-on
biological and ecological research, including field-based labs at
Smith College?s MacLeish Field Station. Current labs include
investigating the effects of exotic species on forest ecosystems and
surveying the biodiversity of vernal pools, but the successful
applicant will also be able to design investigations in his or her
specialty, and the position has the potential for involvement in other
labs focused on organismal biology or ecology.
