Thick! Also out along south shore of Maury Island, I sampled the water and confirmed Noctiluca. People on the beach report a strong iodine line odor. Dogs came out of water and seemed irritated by something.<div>Interesting that my whole water sample from the wind effected side of the float only had 40000 c/l but if I had scooped up the orange scum from the corner there would have been nothing else visible.</div><div>Some one did bring the bloom to the attention of the ferry crew wondering if it was a sewage leak. This is where we first found and documented wild fish (several species) being killed by the alga. The coloration looks to be similar to what it normally is from the air for three of the photos, although photo No. 5627 (from Elliott Bay according to Christopher) is not similar. Color from airplanes of course is not a highly definitive measure. Northern Case Inlet is quite shallow and therefore could be warmer than adjacent areas and has slow circulation that might account for earlier than normal Heterosigma blooms than some other areas.
