<p class=MsoNormal>Today in Bellingham Passage (between Guemes and Cypress
Island) cell counts of PSP-causing <i>Alexandrium catenalla</i> were
approximately 0.25 million cells per liter, one of the most dense blooms
observed there for some time. Surrounding areas have similar brownish
water coloration suggesting a broad distribution. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>Separately, harmful <i>Chaetoceros convolutus</i> cell
numbers increased over past few days in central Puget Sound and Port Angeles
Harbor. Lower concentrations have been recorded in the Strait of Juan de
Fuca near Ediz Hook. Depth distribution confirms that it is not just
surface oriented, but is generally higher near the surface. The outlook
for very hot weather tomorrow may exacerbate these blooms or events, judging
from past experience. <o:p></o:p></p>
