<p class=MsoPlainText>Subject: Algae bloom in middle of Canal in front of
Alderbrook Resort and Spa<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Hi,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I have received two reports of a milky white bloom in the
center of Hood Canal today. It is clearly visible from uphill vantage
points. This morning at 10:30 it was centered in the middle of Hood Canal
and ranged from Calm Cove down towards Alderbrook Resort and Spa. With
this afternoon's flood tide, the bloom has now moved down and is now running
east of Alderbrook down toward Belfair. If samplers are out, it would be
good to get a sample of the bloom and see if it is coccolithophore.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>I would be curious to see if anyone else has mentioned or
seen this today. When I was out on the Canal yesterday, this condition was not
obvious to me.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoPlainText>Listserve manager note: it could be lots of things but in
particular a senescent diatom bloom (e.g., Rhizosolenia, whitish color) or a
recurring bloom of cocolithophores (whitish-blue-green) as have been seen in
the past two years. <o:p></o:p></p>
