Highfield Hall & Gardens' annual Science & Environment speaker series kicks off on May 22nd 5:30-7:00pm with Jake McCumber, Natural Resources & Training Lands Manager for MA Army National Guard. Discussions around climate change introduce a lot of new terms,
but one of the most important is at the heart of climate preparedness. Climate Resilience integrates various considerations including the long-term ability to sequester and store carbon from the atmosphere and the ability to withstand changes and extreme events.
The North Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens is a globally rare and isolated ecosystem with significant remnants in Southeastern Massachusetts. These pine barrens remnants have a national level priority on conservation for a high number of rare species and natural
communities. They are also at significant risk from climate change impacts. The good news is that conservation managers are actively increasing climate resilience in the pine barrens with a focus on long-term ecosystem health. This talk will discuss the value
of our pine barrens, the synergy of biodiversity and climate resilience, ongoing and emerging climate impacts, and the role of stewardship in our natural environment. Join Jake for his engaging presentation, followed by time for Q & A and discussion. Highfield’s
