actively fostering an appreciation for maritime culture in kids. Specifically,
we provide a hands-on introduction to a wide array of maritime activities,
including marine biology, navigation, maritime history, sailing, seamanship,
and naval architecture. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Garamond,serif">To do this, we integrate the Museum’s exhibits, our Dyer 29
research vessel, ADVENTURE, our historic catboat, SARAH, and the “classroom” of
Nantucket Sound to provide a fun, high content experience. Our hope is that no
middle schooler will ever look at the water the same way after participating in
Young Mariner. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><b><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Garamond,serif">Program Scope:</span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Garamond,serif">The Young Mariner Program summer camp participants attend
four, half day sessions (either morning or afternoon). Each session consists of
twelve (12) kids that spend half of their time on the water and half their time
at the Museum. The program runs for nine (9) weeks from June 27, 2022, to
August 22, 2022. This program may be expanded to five days. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Garamond,serif">The Program has capacity for 24 kids per week or a total
capacity of 216 kids. The Museum aspires to offer at least 50% of these slots
on a tuition-free (scholarship) basis. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0in 0in 8pt;line-height:107%;font-size:11pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:107%;font-family:Garamond,serif">Summer 2021 staff consisted of a Program Director who acted
as the onboard educator, ADVENTURE boat captain, two shoreside assistant
educators and a part time SARAH boat captain. We expect to determine the summer
final levels in conjunction with input
from the new Program Director. </span></p>

each of these sessions. A perfect day is one where kids are moving fast and seeing
as many new things as possible. While seamanship is not taught as a separate
section, kids are encouraged to help with the lines, bumpers, try steering by
the compass and all the other teaching moments that a skilled and energetic
educator can conjure up while onboard. </span></p>

running the summer camp and is expected to act as the face of the summer camp,

safety of camp and participants, and quality of product delivered. Staff
support is currently envisioned to include a licensed captain, and an assistant
teacher and counselor. Our highest priority is the safety and education of participants and ensuring they have an
excellent experience on the water and ashore.</span></p>
