<span style="font-size:12.0pt">American Eels and Rainbow Smelt have supported people in New England as a source of food<br>
for a long time. Both have unique life histories that involve migrating between fresh and salt water.<br>
Smelt spawn in freshwater rivers like river herring but do not travel as far upstream. Eels make the opposite trip – they begin their lives at sea, migrate to freshwater to live, and then return to the sea to spawn. Brad Chase will talk about these fascinating
migrations, the historic fisheries for these species in Massachusetts, and the monitoring, research and habitat restoration work that is taking place along the coast.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<a href="https://seagrant.whoi.edu/">Woods Hole Sea Grant</a> and the <a href="https://wildlandstrust.org/events/world-migratory-fish-day-part-3">
Wildlands Trust</a>. The Town of Plymouth is celebrating its 400th anniversary in 2020 and stream restoration will be a highlight of the celebrations. In recognition of years of effort, the Town of Plymouth was designated the North American Headquarters for
<a href="https://www.worldfishmigrationday.com/">World Fish Migration Day 2020</a>.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;letter-spacing:.1pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
