This job aid describes common bioengineering methods used to stabilize wildland slopes that are vulnerable to wildfire, and broadly identifies steps to develop a wildfire mitigation project that incorporates bioengineering methods. Bioengineered stabilization
methods incorporate the use of living and nonliving plant material, biological elements and natural barriers to establish vegetation, reduce erosion, and stabilize shorelines, streambanks and sloped landscape vulnerable to wildfire.
