She received her Masters of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2009. While pursuing that degree she worked as a Research Assistant at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Conte Anadromous Fish Research Laboratory. One of her research interests is evaluating how well river herring can swim up and down fish ladders.

The Trust will also give an update about the ongoing restoration of the Coonamessett River and their Adopt-a-Herring project. This will be the fourth season the CRT uses state-of-the art remote monitoring technology – passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags coupled with antennas– to track the progress of fish to their spawning ponds. The public is invited to “adopt” and name a herring ($12 each or 3 for $30) to offset the costs of the program. Each donor can track the progress of their fish on our web site. The CRT also donates tags to local classrooms where students can also adopt and name their fish. Teachers have used the program as a catalyst to teach about animal life history, physical sciences, and local culture.

Email crivertrust@gmail.com for additional information about the meeting or if you would like to adopt a herring or donate to the school program .

Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

********************

Wendi Buesseler

President

Coonamessett River Trust

508-540-8162
