personal anecdotes and reflections of his experience as Ambassador at the Marine Biological Laboratory’s

Friday, December 1. Barber’s lecture, titled “Iceland, An Ambassador’s Perspective,” will be held at 7:30 PM in the MBL’s Lillie Auditorium, 7 MBL Street, Woods Hole. The free series is presented by the
</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%"><a href="http://www.mbl.edu/associates" target="_blank"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">MBL Associates</span></a></span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">
and offered as a cultural connection between the Marine Biological Laboratory and the Cape Cod community. Free parking is available in any MBL lot.<b><o:p></o:p></b></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:150%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Barber will describe the unique aspects of serving in Iceland, related in part to the country and its peoples’ focus upon ingenuity
and innovation in utilization of natural resources (renewable energy deep below the surface and fish/shellfish from the sea). He will detail Iceland’s special geostrategic significance to the U.S., historically and currently, and the resulting close bilateral
relationship and collaborations ranging from NATO, to the Arctic Council, to governmental organization of eight nations within the Arctic Circle.

<span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"">Appointed by President Obama, Barber served as U.S. Ambassador to Iceland from 2015 to 2017. He recently resumed his commercial law practice with Prince Lobel Tye LLP as
a partner in the Corporate Practice Group. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
