<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">I am writing to invite you to present a workshop or interactive demonstration at the 2018 <a href="http://www.northeastern.edu/cos/marinescience/outreach/high-school-marine-science-symposium/"><b>High School
Marine Science Symposium (HSMSS)</b>.</a> We’ve been lucky to have had great participation from the Northeastern community in the past, so I hope you will consider being a part of this event again or for the first time.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">This event is sponsored by the <a href="http://ma-marine-ed.org/">Massachusetts Marine Educators (MME)</a> and the <a href="http://northeastern.edu/cos/marinescience">Northeastern University Marine Science Center</a>.
MME has been hosting the event for the past couple of decades with much success. Northeastern has been a co-host since 2013.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">This year, we are hosting one event, which will be held on <b><u>Thursday, March 8th at Northeastern University main campus in Boston </u></b><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Individuals or teams of presenters are invited to participate in one or both* of two different types of presenter opportunities:</span></b><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:11.0pt"> </span></b><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<li class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Deliver two, back-to-back, 40-minute, hands-on workshops to groups of ~20 students<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Deliver an interactive demonstration or activity at a table, with students circulating between a series of tables throughout each session<o:p></o:p></span></li></ol>

Workshops will conclude by ~11:30. All presenters are provided with a light breakfast and lunch, but staying for lunch is not required. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"> The workshop or table demonstration topic would be of your choosing, however, <b>we are asking that presentations be engaging, hands-on, interactive</b>. It doesn't necessarily have to be your primary work/research
focus and workshops can have more than one presenter per session. Here are some <a href="http://learn-differently.com/files/2011/08/top-ten-mistakes-article-2011.pdf">tips to consider when presenting to youth audiences</a>. If you are interested, but worried
about how you might fill 40 minutes, let us know – we may have some ideas to help make it a successful presentation.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Last year we had more interested presenters than slots available, so we are conducting the presenter recruiting process a bit differently for 2018. Once the call for presenters closes, we will review all submissions
to curate a lineup that includes a diversity of topics/expertise. In early January, Val will reach out to let you know if you've been selected to present. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
