BREWSTER, MA Digging Into the Past, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural
History’s archaeology and history series, presents The Ancient Craft
of Blacksmithing with Brewster native and artist Nora Bourbon
Friday, September 29, 2017 at 1pm.

Do you think blacksmiths no longer exist? Think again. This field is
experiencing a bit of resurgence as people look for a craft with an
artistic component that can provide a usable product for those who are
looking for something out of the ordinary and many of today’s blacksmiths
work with the tools and techniques utilized for many centuries.
Norah Bourbon has been a “smithy” since 2010 and volunteers at forges in
Eastham, Brewster, and Barnstable and at the country Fair Grounds. From
the sooty corner of the shop, she will be dusting off, placing her tongs
on the anvil and hanging up her forging apron to explain the basic tools
and set up of a Smitty’s workspace. Join Norah as she shares her
knowledge of the ancient craft of blacksmithing and she will also have
some of her unique forged items for sale after the talk
