The Director of Curriculum and Instruction will build on Project Oceanology’s achievements to date by leading curriculum revision to meet new Next Generation Science Standards, facilitating expansion of its programs, integrating of Project O activities into the local school curricula, fostering marine research, implementing assessments to evaluate and monitor program success, and providing leadership in developing, supervising, and evaluating Project Oceanology’s staff of marine science educators. Applicants should have knowledge of marine science and broad interest in oceans, including coastal ecosystems, fisheries resources, human interactions and management issues. Delivery of marine science programs aboard research vessels, on shoreline programs, in marine laboratories, and in classrooms will constitute a portion of the job assignment. Considerable physical stamina is required to work aboard vessels and outdoors for long periods, including during inclement weather. The position requires expertise in science pedagogy, sound judgment, independence, initiative, maturity, and excellent observation and communication skills. Hours are flexible and varied, including some evenings and weekends.
