<p class="MsoNormal">Waquoit Bay Research Reserve staff and scientists will be conducting tests of several optical instruments.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We welcome members of the public interested in astronomy and stargazing to join us. We will have telescopes set up for observing various celestial<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">objects: planets, Moon, star clusters, etc.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">In particular, the planet Venus (the evening star) is very bright in the western sky now and will continue in February. Venus goes through the following aspects in 2017: Greatest eastern elongation of 47 degrees on January 12; Greatest
brilliancy on February 18; Stationary then retrograde on March 2; Inferior conjunction on March 25 (after that Venus will appear as the morning star in the eastern sky); Stationary then prograde on April 12; Greatest brilliancy on April 26; Greatest western
elongation of 46 degrees on June 3. The next Superior conjunction of Venus will occur on January 9, 2018.
