lecture, “Rescue at Sea! History & Procedures of Coast Guard Search & Rescue Operations,” on Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. Capt. Chris Nolan, SEA Assistant Professor of Nautical Science, will deliver the lecture, the first of SEA’s Winter/Spring Lecture Series.
The lecture will be held at </span><span style="font-size:12.0pt">James L. Madden Center Lecture Hall, Sea Education Center, 171 Woods Hole Road, Falmouth. It is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.<br>

</span></b><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The sea is a dangerous place. That’s why minimizing the loss of life and property in the marine environment is one of the U.S. Coast Guard’s oldest missions. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">In this faculty lecture,
Capt. Chris Nolan, a former commanding officer of a U.S. Coast Guard cutter, will use compelling videos and photographs to describe the history of the Coast Guard search and rescue mission. He’ll also discuss the modern tools, techniques, and procedures that
make dramatic rescues at sea a routine activity for the United States Coast Guard.</span></p>

is an Assistant Professor of Nautical Science at Sea Education Association / SEA Semester. He holds a mariner’s license as master of vessels up to 1600 tons upon ocean routes. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Marine/Environmental Science from the U.S. Coast
Guard Academy and a master’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Administration from Oregon State University.</span></p>
