W. Burgess Society</span></b> in Sandwich is the recipient of two recent grants
in support of its educational programs, both in-house at its <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Green</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Briar</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Nature</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>
and outreach to area schools. A <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>$10,000
grant</span></b> has been awarded by the <b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Roessner
Family Foundation</span></b> in support of new programs in the natural sciences
designed for young learners and the continuation of enrichment programs offered
to Grades K-3 at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Hyannis</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceName w:st="on">West</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Elementary
School</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>, which were also funded by the Roessner
Family Foundation last year. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:150%'><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span
style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%'><o:p> </o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='line-height:150%'><font size=3 face="Times New Roman"><span
style='font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%'>For the past several years the <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>National Grid Foundation</span></b> has provided
funding support for the Thornton W. Burgess Society’s Project LIFE
(Lessons in Field Ecology) program in area schools. A <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>$9,500 grant</span></b> in 2017 provides support to
continue this program for Grades 2-6 in <st1:place w:st="on">Sandwich</st1:place>,
Bourne and Mashpee schools. This year Project LIFE will also include new units
of study in the natural sciences and environmental studies.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
