are disappearing at an alarming rate. In Massachusetts, many breeding grassland birds are identified as needing urgent conservation action. As a land manager or owner, you can make a real difference in protecting these species by implementing a number of simple
management practices that are greatly beneficial for grassland birds. Our aim for this workshop is to help land owners and managers understand the issue and develop sustainable management practices.

in the analysis of the first 30 years of Manomet’s land bird banding effort and spearheaded federal protection of the California Gnatcatcher under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. From 1998-2011 he directed the Conservation Biology Program at Antioch University
where he taught classes in Ornithology, Ecological Research Design, GIS and mentored over 70 graduate students. During 2011-2013 he worked as Science Director at the Biodiversity Research Institute in Southern Maine. Currently he is a Bird Conservation Fellow
with the Massachusetts Audubon Society, focusing on conservation of grassland bird species.
