The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents
John T.Cumbler Author of
Cape Cod: An Environmental History of a Fragile Ecosystem

BREWSTER, MA. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural
History in Brewster is proud to present author John T. Cumbler for a
presentation on his most recent book, Cape Cod: An Environmental
History of a Fragile Ecosystem Sunday, September 6, 2015 at
1pm.

Cape Codders have experienced significantly different Cape environments
over the last 300 years. Much of the difference resulted from Cape
Codders themselves using the land and sea to support themselves and their
families and to pass on something to the next generation. How those
Cape residents used the resources available to them significantly
affected what kind of Cape Cod was available for future generations.

This presentation will look at how Cape Codders have used the
Cape's environment and how that has changed over the last 300 years. From
an understanding of that past it is hoped we might be in a better
position to leave to future generations a Cape that is both loved and
worthy of that love. Book signing to follow the presentation.
John Cumbler is a recently retired professor at the University of
Louisville and now lives in Wellfleet year round. He is
the author of numerous books, including “From Abolition to Rights for
All: The Making of a Reform Community in the Nineteenth Century” and
“Reasonable Use: The People, Environment, and the State, New England,
1790-1930”
