The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents
Tracking New England's Lined Seahorse
with
David Wedge, Senior Aquarist, New England Aquarium

BREWSTER, MA The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster is proud
to present Tracking New England’s Lined Seahorse with David Wedge,
Senior Aquarist, New England Aquarium Monday, August 3, 2015 at
1pm.

As senior aquarist, David is responsible for the aquarium's Wet
Lab education outreach invertebrates "Edge of the Sea" tide
pool touch exhibit, specializing in the Lined Seahorse Hippocampus
erectus or spotted seahorse. The Lined Seahorse lives in the Atlantic
Ocean as far north as Canada and as far south as the Caribbean, Mexico,
and Venezuela. The habitat of the lined seahorse is diminishing due to
coastal growth and pollution, which ultimately is the cause of the
decreasing population and is contributing to their “vulnerable” status as
a species.

David will discuss his collaboration with the Vero Beach Marine Lab in
Sarasota, Florida assisting them in the collection process of small
tissue samples of wild Lined Seahorses in order to create a genetic
profile of their distribution and populations along the East Coast. He
will also introduce an online citizen science application that anyone can
use to identify when and where a seahorse has been found in any part of
the world as well as the New England Aquarium's participation in the
Species Survival Plan for captive Lined Seahorses in the Aquarium
industry.

The presentation will be held at the Museum on Monday, August 3rd
at 1pm.
