task - people at the booth represent the Center and are often the only
point of contact visitors have with our organization. We will have orientation and
training for volunteers at the beginning of the summer (primarily at the end of June), and we do our best to
give volunteers exposure to the Center for Coastal Studies' work so that they
can speak knowledgeably and with confidence. Volunteers do not need to
have extensive background in order to be great representatives. The most important attributes outreach volunteers do need are:

enthusiasm for Cape Cod Bay and the ocean and interest in the Center for Coastal Studies' work with the environment and whales

good health - they need to be fit enough to be on their feet in the sun for several hours

willingness to put up with varying weather - both hot and cold/windy

enjoyment of people and willingness to chat and engage with them

to be between the ages of 18 and 80

reliable transportation

This would be a good activity for marine science students as well as for permanent or part time Cape Cod residents concerned about our coastal environment. We ask for a minimum commitment of 4 hours per week for 6-8 weeks. We are very flexible. The possibility for students to create and incorporate short term projects into their experience at CCS also exists.

Please contact Beth Larson ASAP if this is something that interests you.

elarson@coastalstudies.org

(310)916-6634 (cell phone)

P.S.
