The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History presents
Climate Change and Cape Cod: Needing to Play Both Offense and
Defense

BREWSTER, MA The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, MA
will be hosting
Tom Stone, Emeritus Scientist at the Woods Hole Research Center, on
Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 1pm.

Mr. Stone is an environmental geologist who uses remote-sensing
technology to map vegetation and to determine rates of land use change.
Throughout his career, he used satellite imagery and GIS data to
determine the rates of deforestation and land cover change in Siberia,
Amazonia, Panama, and in the northeastern US. The results of his work
assisted in the determination of biotic contributions to the global
climate change problem and provided information for land use planning.
Over the past two years, Mr. Stone has organized conferences in Hyannis
and New Bedford that focused on aspects of climate change most likely to
affect Cape Cod and Southeast Massachusetts.

After discussing general aspects of climate change, Mr. Stone will
present the three primary problems facing Cape Cod and the Islands due to
ongoing climate change: sea level rise, increased storminess, and the
lesser known aspect of ocean acidification. He will describe the
background of the issues, their likely future consequences, as well as
how we can work with local groups and organizations to help mitigate
these problems.

The presentation will be held at the Museum on Saturday, March 14, 2015
at 1pm.
