<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">The Maggie Geist Internship
Program was established in 2012 in recognition of former APCC Executive
Director, Maggie Geist, who made many contributions to the protection of Cape
Cod’s environment.  The Geist Internship
is designed to provide an individual who is committed to ecology and
environmental protection with a meaningful and substantial learning experience
working in one of the most beautiful ecosystems – Cape Cod.  The internship is a full-time, funded
position for 8-10 weeks.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">For 2015, APCC is seeking a
biology teacher who is interested in spending the summer performing scientific
research to reacquaint themselves with hands-on science.  Under the supervision of APCC staff, the intern
will monitor tidally restricted salt marshes for ecosystem health.  This will involve seining for fish,
identifying and quantifying vegetation, measuring water quality parameters,
entering data into an existing database, collecting GIS coordinates using a
handheld GPS unit, and maintaining and repairing field equipment.    </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Ideal candidate
qualifications include the following: </span></p>

<p class="" style><span style="font-family:Symbol">·<span style="font-stretch:normal;font-size:7pt;font-family:&#39;Times New Roman&#39;">        
</span></span><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">P<span style="background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">roficiency in Microsoft Excel.</span></span></p>

<p class="" style><span style="font-family:Symbol">·<span style="font-stretch:normal;font-size:7pt;font-family:&#39;Times New Roman&#39;">        
</span></span><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">Fish seining and field study experience.</span></p>

</span></span><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">Experience with fish and plant identification.</span></p>

</span></span><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">Experience with handheld GPS devices.</span></p>

</span></span><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">Familiarity with YSI multi-probe datalogger.</span></p>

</span></span><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;background-image:initial;background-repeat:initial">Familiarity with GIS mapping software, ArcView, a plus.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Candidates should have access to
their own transportation.  If travel to a
project site is necessary, reimbursement is available. Applicant must be
organized and physically able to walk through salt marshes and other difficult
terrain. </span><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">APCC will

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Calibri,sans-serif">Housing
is not included in any APCC internship program. APCC will assist interns in
locating housing, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the intern. </span></p>
