CCMNH’s archaeology/history series, Digging into the Past
presents a lecture on the latest investigation of the Wing Fort House in
Sandwich. Archaeologists’ original plan was designed to locate and
investigate the 17th-18th century gardens that were believed to be
located on the south side of the house. As work progressed, no traces of
gardens were found but what did emerge was a portion of at least two
previously unknown buildings that appear to have been constructed very
early and were removed by the early 18th century. Added to this surprise
was the fact that both were found to have been constructed using the
earth fast technique- post-in-ground construction that is believed to
have been used from the earliest days of Plymouth Colony. Join us for
this fascinating lecture and discover more about their findings using
ground penetrating radar or GPR!
