As part of our Nature Knowledge summer series, the Cape Cod
Museum of Natural History presents Natural Community Ecologist, Dr. Pat
Swain of the Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program,
Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. The talk will address
the conservation of biodiversity in Massachusetts with a focus on the
Cape. She will describe the role of MassWildlife’s Natural Heritage
& Endangered Species Program in identifying, tracking, managing, and
regulating rare species and identifying and mapping NHESP priority
natural communities. Local examples of uncommon types of natural
communities will be used to discuss structure and function of communities
and their role in biodiversity conservation. If time allows, she will
discuss Land use history, changes in the landscape, climate change, and
other influences on local and state-wide appropriate native
biodiversity.
Free with Museum admission.
